Here's a very sketchy and basic idea of what the banner will sort of not completely but in a simple way look: Any suggestions for what better to put on it? Help me!

i think a picture of steps would be appropriate. maybe somebody falling down them. like the stick figure hazard signs. but falling down stairs.
maybe sneak in a laurel wreath (perhaps as the bones of the skull).

I love the stick figure hazard sign steps idea. I'll see if I can work out a way to do that well. Probably instead of the palmetto and beads. And, yeah, there'll be a wreath or two somewhere.

Okay, here is a little closer to what I'm thinking now, at least in terms of background colors and elements. But, of course, it'll all be done by hand in stencil. We've got a roman numeral 5, a mug of beer, the two front houses and stairs, and the big oak tree. I may, if I feel really inspired, do a red brick style background instead of the blue.

I like it, it's gonna look pretty awesome when you do it yourself!

I sure hope so. I've got a flat white full size sheet all ready to go. I'm not sure where I'll hang it when it's done. Okay, here's with bricks, which I like:

i like the bricks much better. if you can pull it off in the world of sheets and stencils, you should definitely go with that.

Nice, if you need any help with anything just say the word, I've got more than plenty of spare time.
Sad, huh?

And if not, duct tape!
Come by, you can at least spend you free time keeping me company while I get high on paint fumes.

Duct tape is always a helpful tool. I may have lots of free time, but my time isn't free!

Okay, let me break this banner down: - I already have the skull and crossbones stencil - the words are almost completely cut out - I picked a very simple font instead of something with a lot of lace to it - I'll need 4 panels for the shield, and I'll mark the lines out with masking tape and remove or add the shield panels as I move around - for the lines on the brick, I'll just use thin masking tape and then pull that up once it's sprayed red - the V will be super simple. - I'll do one house and just repeat, the house will probably be the main shape, plus a door and two windows. I can just include them in the cut out and let the white of the sheet come through - the stairs will be easy - For the beer I'll probably lay those down before I spray the green, and I may well use a black sharpie to outline the mug or pint glasses, so that'll just be glasses and the beer itself. - and the tree - brown trunk and green leaves. and that should be all the stencils I need to cut. I can spray both tonight and tomorrow. I'm going to use the big wooden zine rack that I threw into the side yard as a frame to hold it steady as I work.
I may, if I feel fancy, cut a large palmetto frond stencil and then lay it one way and the other at the bottom of the shield, but we'll see.
