CRESCENT CITY, Fla. -- An 18-year-old self-proclaimed "skinhead" was arrested Sunday on suspicion of spray-painting swastikas and the words "white power" on a church and restaurant, Putnam County sheriff's deputies said.
Kent Ryan McLellan, of Crescent City, was arrested on one count of felony criminal mischief to a house of worship and one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief in connection with the graffiti at the restaurant.
According to sheriff's deputies, the owner of Palmeras Restaurant contacted authorities around 11 a.m. after discovering the graffiti on his storefront. A deputy watched surveillance video of the incident, and an investigation led him to McLellan, who he had seen in the past wearing similar clothing, the sheriff's office said.
After visiting the restaurant, the deputy rode past Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at 121 Ewers Road, just south of Crescent City, where he observed a large group of church members trying to clean similar graffiti off the side of the church, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
The graffiti consisted of swastikas, the words "white power" and "RahoWa," which stands for "Racial Holy War," deputies said.
The deputy located and interviewed McLellan, who said he did not like the members of the church because they kept trying to convert him, and someone at the restaurant would make fun of him because of his clothing style, the sheriff's office said.
McLellan was arrested and booked into the Putnam County Jail.
