Now, I'm not a religious person (by any stretch of the word), however you peeps have not kept me in good reading lately so i'm up to stirring shit again. the latest is a priest that has banned an autistic child from his church services. Is his "gag order" justified or should he be gagged? opinions?

do you have a link? i would be curious as to the story behind it.
i am slightly biased since matt was beat up by an unsupervised autistic kid at school that resulted in concussion and issues that he is still dealing with 2 years later. but, on general principle, i can't imagine a good reason to ban anyone from church. i mean, damn.

The kid in question is 6 feet tall, 225 pounds, and is known for spitting and pissing in the church. He's almost injured several small children and some old folks. His parents have to literally bind his feet and hands at times, and haven't been successful in keeping him from acting out in church. At some point, the danger he poses to others has to be dealt with. I'd say his banning is justified. www.startribune.com/lifestyle/faith/19059069.html

bravo hanker! you did your research. i really feel for people that have children with any type of diability. honestly, i do. HOWEVER... i don't blame the child. anyone who would bring their kid to a church (or any kind of) service when he causes those kind of disruptions should be flogged beyond begging for mercy. i mean, i still feel for them, even if they are mindless, inconsiderate dolts.
and jacob, as far as matt's school leaving an austic child unsuperivsed? see the "flogging" comment above. i wonder if they would give matt and his baseball bat 2 minutes of unsupervised "play" with that kid?

Yeah, I'm not blaming anyone. It's a rough choice all around. I'm just saying that I believe the preacher is doing the right thing by asking the kid's family not to bring him to services where he is a danger to himself and others.

and honestly, if an autistic kid hit or spit on me, i would have some compassion and understanding. but a kid that big hitting one of my young children? or trying to take a piss on any of us? or pulling my daughter on his lap and molesting her? oh hells no. i'm afraid i would make that child cry. and probably be sent to jail for beating up a disabled kid. sheesh. that wouldn't look good.
i know in an autistic childs life routine is super important, so routinely keep him home there mom.
